Fever is a temporary increase of body temperature. Fever is a sign that something is going wrong in your body. Fever is common and it is treated easily with fluids, medication and rest.
You should consult a doctor if you have following symptoms along with fever:
- If fever continues for more than 48 hours
- Baby below 3 months old having temperature ≥100.3 F
- Diarrhea or vomiting that lasts > 12 hours
- Cough that produces green, yellow and tan or bloody mucus
- If fevers comes and goes and with night sweats and swollen lymph nodes
- A low-grade fever which comes and goes for a week or more.
- Mild fever which comes and goes with a tiredness and sore throat
- Headache and sore throat for more than 48 hours
- An earache
- When body temperature is above 103 degrees after using medicines and other cool-down measures like cool compresses on head, under the arms or taking a cool bath.
When fever is an emergency?
Immediately take medical treatment if any of the following symptoms occur with fever:
- Severe headache or seizures
- Cool down procedures can’t get the temperature down
- Confused mental status
- Skin rash which worsens and spreads
- Chest pain or Breathing difficulties
- stiffness and Pain in neck
- Nausea, vomiting or severe stomach pain
