What to do when there is eye injury?

Eye is a very sensitivity part of the body. An injury to eye needs to be carefully managed to prevent any complications. Eye injury may happen because of various reasons like heat, foreign body, chemicals, etc. Here we present few steps that you need to take safely handle eye injury. First thing you need to do before taking any step is to wash your hands clean. In any case, do not rub your eye and do not apply pressure.

When there is an object in the eye: Do not rub the eye, flush your eyes with clean water, do not put pressure on the eye. You may remove the object using a wet swab or tip of twisted clean cloth/tissue if the object is on white part of your eye. If the object has punctured the eye, do not try to remove it.

Black eye: Put an ice or cold pack for 15 min on the eye for about 3 or 4 times in a day; this will help to decrease swelling. Do not use any chemical wash it can worsen the problem. You may use a pain killer if the injury is paining. 

Exposure to heat: Flush your eye with cool water for 30 min, cover your eyes with dark glasses. Do not pop up blisters if there are. Use light and cool compress.

Chemical exposure: Rinse your eye with lots of water for 15 to 20 min, get medical help as soon as possible, help doctor to identify the chemical to which you got exposed. Do not rub or bandage the eye.
