There could be several reasons for fainting. The cause could be simple body weakness to heart ailment. If someone faints, it is important to ensure that he is not surrounded by people. Being surrounded will make breathing difficult.

Position the person on his back and lift his legs by about 12 inches, this will help blood to reach brain. Loosen his cloths, especially belt and collar. See the person is breathing or not and check the pulse.  Try to wake him up by shaking him or sprinkling a little water on the face or yell to wake him up. If he does not wake up, call an ambulance immediately and shift him to hospital. If the person responds and recovers, give him fruit juice. Stay with the person until he or she is fully recovered.

You have to call a doctor or take the person to a doctor in following conditions:

1. Head injury/hit on head before fainting

2. Has more than 1 episode of fainting in a month

3. If the person is pregnant or has heart ailment

4. Has uncommon symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, confusion, blurred vision, or difficulty talking
