Things you should know about Migraine

Migraine is a neurological condition. It is characterized by intense debilitating headaches. It can begin in childhood or may occur in adulthood. Family history is most common risk factor for migraine. Migraine is more common among women when compared to men.

Migraine symptoms: Migraine symptoms may start one or two days before of head ache. Symptoms in this stage are depression, food cravings, frequent yawning, fatigue/low energy, hyperactivity, neck stiffness and irritability.

The next stage is known as attack stage. Symptoms of migraine are different from person to person. Common symptoms are:

  • Nausea
  • Increased sensitivity to sound and light
  • Feeling faint or dizzy
  • Pain on one side of head
  • Vomiting
  • Throbbing and pulsing headache

How to Prevent migraine? 

  • Avoid bright lights and loud noises: common trigger for migraine headaches is flash lights and loud noises. Avoid driving in nights, going to movie theatres, crowded venues, glaring from the sun.
  • Healthy diet and Good diet: Avoid skipping meals and fasting. Have regular sleep to prevent migraine.
  • Avoid stress: Stress triggers migraine. Relaxation methods such as yoga, meditation will help to reduce the stress triggers.
  • Check what you eat: Identify the food and additives which cause migraine and avoid them.
  • Intake of supplements: Magnesium supplements can reduce the migraine.
