Stay away from tobacco

Perhaps, there is no organ in the body which is not affected by tobacco. Tobacco can kill you in many more ways than you think. The world utilized the “world tobacco day” which was observed on 31st of May to increase the awareness about ills caused by tobacco. Here we are summarizing the ills of tobacco for your quick read.

Risks of disease increase by many fold:

  • Tobacco increases risk of heart disease by 2 to 4 times
  • Tobacco increases risk of stroke by 2 to 4 times
  • Tobacco increases risk lung cancer by 25 times among men
  • Tobacco increases risk lung cancer by 25.7 times among men

There is no place where tobacco can’t cause cancer:

  • Tobacco can cause cancers in urinary ladder, cervix, intestines, blood, food pipe, sound box, liver, pancreas, stomach, mouth, throat, lungs, kidney, ureter and many more

Tobacco can affect sexual health and reproduction as well:

  • Tobacco can affect sperm
  • Tobacco can affect pregnancy
  • Tobacco can cause early delivery, delivery of dead baby, low birth weight, foetal anomalies and many more

Tobacco also has other affects:

  • Tobacco affects brain, bones, teeth, eyes (retina), joints, heart, etc.
  • Diabetes and hypertension control is difficult among tobacco users

What happens if you quit?

  • Within 1 year, there would be sharp decrease in heart disease risk
  • In 2 to 5 years, risk of stroke decreases to the level that of non-smokers
  • Within 5 years, risks of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder decrease by half
  • Within 10 years risk of lung cancer decrease by half
