Simple measures to prevent Arthritis

Arthritis is the inflammation of joints associated with pain. There are three main types of arthritis which includes osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Every type of arthritis can lead to deformity of joints and loss of function. By practicing some healthy habits you can reduce risk of developing painful arthritis. Below are some simple measures to prevent arthritis:

  • Manage your weight: If you are obese or overweight, this will put pressure on your knees leading to arthritis. By reducing the weight you can reduce stress to the joints and prevent arthritis.
  • Take fish: certain types of fishes are rich in healthy polyunsaturated fats called as Omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids reduce inflammation in arthritis.
  • Regular exercise: Exercises not only reduces the body weight but also strengthens the muscles around the joints. This stabilizes the joints and protects them from wear and tear.
  • Avoid Injury: Any injury to your joints will lead to quick wear and tear of joints. Hence, avoid injury by using proper safety measures while playing sports and doing exercises in correct method.
  • Stop smoking: Smoking increases the risk of arthritis. By quitting you can reduce the chance of getting arthritis.
  • Protect your Joints: By using right techniques while working, lifting and sitting you can protect joints from strain. For example, if you want to sit for long time in one place make sure your legs, arms and back have proper support.
