Health Benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids which are required for human health. But human body cannot produce these fatty acids, so everyone has to take this through food. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in some types of fishes like Salmon, tuna, blue fish, even in nut oils and some plants. These fatty acids play an important role in brain function, normal growth, and development of human body. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of chronic diseases, arthritis and heart diseases. Some benefits of these fatty acids are as follows:

  • Reduces the risk of heart diseases: Fish oil supplements rich in omega-3 fatty acids helps to lower the elevated triglycerides levels, decrease blood pressure levels in patients with high blood pressure and increase the HDL levels. These changes can help to reduce the risk of heart diseases.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the inflammation and stiffness of joints. Especially fish oil supplements reduce the rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Depression: Research shows, food with high omega-3 fatty acids helps to reduce the depression and decrease the symptoms of bipolar disorder.
  • Diabetes:  Diabetic people have high triglycerides and low HDL levels. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil help to decrease the level of triglycerides and apoproteins which cause diabetes. Also these fatty acids increase HDL levels.
  • Baby growth and development: Food with rich omega-3 fatty acids help in infant brain development, heart, eyes, immune and nervous system.
