We all just celebrated the festival of colors - Holi.

Did you ever know that colors have the power to alter your wellness and well-being?

"feeling blue", "pink with embarrassment", "purple with rage", "green with envy" are some of the most popular ways we've used a color to describe our mood.

Color is a vital perceptual property and plays an important role in the environment within which we live and work. Certain colors are known to influence our wellbeing and stimulate positive responses, most specifically mood, emotion and some aspects of mental performance.

Colors influence our mental wellbeing:

  • Cloth color: Affect our moods and productivity
  • Eating color: Green vegetables are good for health
  • Surrounding color: Green garden, blue sky or white space

Colors and their influences:

Green

Green is associated with relaxation. Shades of green create a feeling of calmness and relaxation. The green color helps in reducing anxiety and stress may be subdued with soft greens.

Blue

If you are engaging in lots of computers or mobile-platform work, then cool blue is the best option because it is known to reduce eyestrain. As the blue color is associated with creativity and it is color that gives soothing effects to our mind.

Orange

Orange is perceived as a 'happy' color and may be useful in improving mood and alertness.

Yellow

It's an emotional color that lifts spirits and self-esteem. It's for confidence, fun, optimism and happiness at the workplace.

White

White is a complete reflection. It is pure, it's a clean color, hygienic and pure. It's the color of peace, simplicity, sophistication and efficiency. Visually, white enhances the space perception.

Colors create a well-balanced environment

A cluttered space will influence your ability to concentrate, the same way a clean, tidy one will help you to relax. A working station/space should be kept simple. Be careful about the color scheme you decide for your workstation. Keep it uncomplicated and elegant with minimal color combinations.

Color for healing

From the base of the human's spine to the top of the head, you can find seven chakras. Each chakra is associated with a color, and these colors are used in meditation or healing. It is thought to address the issues associated with the chakra. They are like energy wheels that run through the body.

  • Root Chakra (Red Color)
  • Sacral Chakra (Orange Color)
  • Solar Plexus Chakra (Yellow Color)
  • Heart Chakra (Green Color)
  • Throat Chakra (Blue Color)
  • Third Eye Chakra (Indigo Color)
  • The Crown Chakra (Violet Color)

For instance, someone with communication issues would have problems with their throat chakra, which is blue. Imagining blue running through your body and especially through the area of your throat should help you resolve the problem.

So let's splash our daily life routine and surroundings with the right colors.
