Winter is arriving and this is the time when most of us start seeing adds of Chyawanprash for preventing winter diseases like common cold in television. Here is a small analysis of how Chyawanprash helps in avoiding or helps to fight winter diseases
Chyavanaprash is a very old formula, even found in mythologies of India. Main ingredient of Chyawanprash is Indian gooseberry or Awla in Hindi. Gooseberry is extremely rich in vitamin C, which is helpful in 2 ways in winter – keeping the skin healthy and improving ability to fight infections.
Research done on Chyawanprash show that because of its immune booster activity, on long-term use, Chyawanprash improves overall health status and immunity. According to another research paper, Chyawanprash stimulates production of three cytokines – Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α), Interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) and Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-1-alpha (MIP-1-α); these cytokines help in fighting infections.
Chyawanprash surely is helpful in boosting immunity and thus in fighting common winter related infections. However, it is important to select chyawanprash produced with good quality ingredients following right manufacturing process for use.
You can follow a simpler option as well – eat gooseberries in winter, if available.
