Moisturizer is usually used to treat or prevent (dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations like diaper rash, radiation skin burns, etc). It helps the dead skin cells to fall off and the skin to retain more water and thereby leaves the skin soft and smooth. If you do not use moisturizer for your skin, it may cause the following:
- Dry skin: It is characterized by the loss of water in the upper layer of the skin. Moisturizer traps water in the skin by forming an oily layer on the top of the skin.
- Loss of protection: Skin is a natural barrier against environmental hazards and it can become dry during winter season. If moisturizer is not used for the dry skin, an effective barrier for protection is lost.
- Aggravates acne: In people who are sensitive to acne, dry skin worsens acne. If moisturizer is not applied to treat dry skin, it may aggravate acne.
- Itchy skin: If you do not apply the moisturizer regularly for the very dry skin, it can cause tight, flaky and itching skin.
- Dull skin complexion: During winter, as dry skin is very common, if do not apply moisturizer for dry skin following bath or shower, it can cause rough and dull skin complexion.
- More wrinkles: As skin barrier can be compromised if moisturizer is not used to regularly, it can potentially lead to the formation of more and deeper wrinkles.
