Adopt Healthy Habits While Working From Home

The old normal has given way to the new normal. Work From Home (WFH), a concept quickly adopted by everyone in the lockdown and now has been part of the daily routine. As per many experts, it is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. Industry giants, as well as start-ups, have asked their employees to continue to be there.

According to the TCS Annual Report 2019-20, Tata Consultancy Services is also looking at an office model where only one-fourth of its employee force will be required to come to office by 2025.

But working from home can present a unique set of health challenges.

§  For many professionals, going into the office is just getting out of the bed.

§  The lack of social stimulation is another big worry for healthy mind and body.

§  It also leads to the temptation to work in an ergonomically unsound position, like in the bed.

§  Further munching on snacks any time of the day.

§  All these can sabotage virtuous worker's best health intentions.

With the right effort, you can stay productive while taking care of yourself. Here are few tips:

Create a Morning Routine

It might be making a cup of coffee, taking the time to walk or a few minutes of yoga before you start looking at your to-do list. Creating a routine that guides you into the work chair is a must. A routine can be a more powerful boost helping you to be productive throughout the day.

Create and maintain your specific workspace

Your bed or any random space at your home cannot be your workspace. Try to build your little private desk and have a designated working space. Try to create a ritual spot where you get your work done. Once your working hours are over, put back your items just as you would leave the office and leave this spot.

Create an eating plan

Plan out your meals. It prevents you from working to the point of hunger and then scrambling to decide what to eat. Choose healthy meals. Limit your intake of refined carbs, processed foods, and sugary drinks.

Maintain a healthy work-life balance

Balancing your professional and personal life can be challenging, but extremely essential. Track your hours and keep yourself accountable. Set up a schedule as if you were going into the office. Stick to those hours. It has numerous positive benefits like less stress, a lower risk of burnout and a greater sense of well-being.

Don't forget your breaks

Your well-being should not be de-prioritized. In the office talking to colleagues or heading to the canteen provide short breaks. It facilities some relief for eyes and head. At home, many people even spend their lunch-break in front of the computer. Take care of yourself by taking breaks! For every 55 minutes of work take five minutes short break, move away from desk and gadgets and take a walk.
